Wind turbine on fire

Thanks to Conservation for Upland Powys for finding this video of the turbine on fire in Scotland.

This Telegraph article - "1500 accidents and injuries on UK wind farms" - includes a quote from artist Angela Kelly, (featured on our website) Chairman of Country Guardian.

As mentioned on our page about the Fullabrook Down Wind Farm, many wind turbines are built far too close to roads, public footpaths and people's homes.

Scroll down to the row of photographs below the heading March 23rd between Beara and Halsinger. for detailed information about the proximity of houses to these turbines at this wind farm. All the photographs taken on this and other pages of the Fullabrook turbines have been taken from public roads or footpaths, often very close to the turbines.

"New figures show the lights may go out sooner than we thought"

"Figures published last week reveal that the moment when Britain’s lights start going out may be much closer than previously predicted."...

"Britain is becoming less windy"

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/earth/energy/windpower/8261827/Britain-is-becoming-less-windy-raising-doubts-over-Governments-wind-farm-strategy.html

Another important article by Andrew Gilligan in today's Sunday Telegraph, highlighting the the fact that the North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO) is now probably in a negative phase, which will mean colder winters with less wind for Britain and Europe.

According to the article: "On the coldest days of last month, when the need for power was at its greatest, there was virtually no wind, Britain's 3500 wind turbines were largely idle and almost no electricity was generated by them. "

As he points out at his conclusion, politicians may not be bothered by campaigners protesting about the destruction of the countryside..."But they know that large-scale power cuts, or huge fuel bill rises, would destroy any government that presided over them."

"Chris Huhne has a blueprint for a green, cold, dark Britain"

In this Sunday Telegraph article, Christopher Booker says that the government's new energy policy will lead to widespread power cuts and economic disaster.

If the government are worried now by unfavorable headlines about cold weather chaos, this will be nothing compared to the headlines in future winters, on freezing winter nights when all the thousands of new wind turbines stand still and silent.
